Tea Ceremony Seminar in Hurtebise

Urasenke Belgium organises an intensive Chado practice seminar twice per year. The seminar consists of five days of tea ceremony training and zen meditation in Hurtebise monastery in Les Ardennes. Following the tradition of Nojiri sensei's teaching, emphasis is placed on the integration of zen mediation and breating into tea practice. The schedule mimics that of a zen temple, with shared chores and meditation at the start and end of each day.

The seminar takes place at Notre-Dame d’Hurtebise Monastery in Saint-Hubert, Belgium, usually in June and in October. People from tea groups of Urasenke Belgium and from Urasenke groups all over Europe particpate. While partial attendance is possible, full participation is strongly recommended, as the shared rhythm of practice and quiet life at the monastery are central to the experience. Full participants therefore receive priority during enrolment.

The seminar is open to both beginners and advanced practitioners. Beginners must be familiar with usucha hirademae. Because the practice includes extended periods of seiza and meditation, participants with knee or leg problems are advised to contact the organiser in advance.
